With stats that high, it seems very difficult to use normal attacks and not kill everything in a few hits, regardless of what the script is trying to do.

Your stats still need to be high enough to hit normally, since otherwise you get critical misses, which are the same as normal hits. Equipping a few thousand fake hands to reduce damage done would work, if you could manage to get those.
Yeah, that's more or less what I do, without the fake hands. Boast critical hit percent (nato soda is great) and set my moxie/muscle so I can just barely hit. In the outpost the monsters heal, so I can extend combat a very long time if I'm careful. It's a tough balancing act to pull off getting an entire weapon in one go. The other weapons took me many combats, but I still had them all done before I got the lockkey.

I wish I'd had time to see what WHAM wasn't attacking, but my intentionally weak buffing is a likely reason.

Hmm.... I didn't think of that. We don't care about if we can hit with normal attacks do we? The current solution checks against your personal hitchance-setting but in this case the fact that only crits hurt the monster will actually be useful. I'll remove that check.

I'm not sure I'm reading you right, but we do care if we can hit with normal attacks, because you can't get a critical anymore when normal attacks are missing. Miss+Crit=Normal.

Ahh right. So, currently it will use attack if your hitchance with attack is higher than your WHAM_hitchance setting. I guess this means that I can keep the current setup and leave it up to the user to set the hitchance setting to a sensible value and make sure they can hit :)

Whoa. Is this new? BatBrain assumes all critical successes are double damage, regardless of your regular hitchance.

Also, if there's a stasis-type decision that needs to be made in combat, SmartStasis might just possibly be the best place to make it. Just tell me what should be done, as I haven't ventured in the Sea in quite some time.

It dates back to the critical hit revamp. It just wasn't obvious to the players for a while since it claims to be a critical hit even though it only does normal damage.

I tried the latest WHAM beta this morning and, with one of the Mer-Kin gladiator weapons equipped, WHAM tried to do a stasis loop with simple attacks. If any other weapon is equipped it used other options. As long as, as Lost pointed out, your Muscle or Moxie is sufficient to hit without a critical WHAM seems to be doing the right thing.

Actually, the fight text is identical to a normal hit, it just stands out as being distinct from all the glancing blows.

I guess it wasn't obvious for people that ignore the suggestion to read the forum for details, where Jick spelled out exactly what changed.

Several times today, I got into an infinite loop of this:
WHAM: Enqueuing a stun to help with the battle
WHAM: We are going to 2-shot with Rain-Doh blue balls and filthy poultice.
Round [some number]: adeyke executes a macro!
KoLmafia thinks it is round [some number] but KoL thinks it is round 3

I don't have any filthy poultices.

Well... something thinks you have... Could you try to repeat that at a verbosity of ~9? Also what does "inv poultice" show?

I've been playing with my high level non-ascending character in the basement. I'm exposing odd edge cases I don't even want to know about. Somehow, things were still happening here as late as round 89. I aborted it at round 717.

Heh, it would've been awesome if it had worked at that deep a level and it would also have been interesting to have that on verbosity 8 or so to see why it only enqueued some of the items it stated it was going to try to enqueue.

Yeah, I wanted to see what would happen if I pushed things way too far. Maybe later, I'll try again.

I just started a new Big! run as a Disco Bandit (working my way through the Violence outfit in The Sea) and I'm really liking how WHAM beta is performing with the addition of Crowther's suggested change in sorting of combat options.

I'm at the beginning of a run, and meat-poor, so I dropped WHAM_roundcost_ronin to zero. Magic!

Yeah... my NZPR will still stasis, but less so that before. Which I'm a fan of. :) After the 10th round and meat is off the plate, stasis meh. :)

Currently DB running the +weight mysticality BIG because I want my 3 new mysticality weapons and only +weight actually helps in a major way. Especially with NZPR. :)

@adeyke and @Crowther: Both of those issues seem like mafia's inventory got out of sync with KoL somehow. Those "adjusted item count" messages are a pretty big clue, since it means mafia saw your item amount in the fight.php item dropdown and adjusted its internal count for that item. If that happens again, try "refresh inventory" and see if that fixes it.

@Winterbay: I'm making a change to how BatBrain handles custom items which may break WHAM if I don't forewarn you. It solves our chefstaff problem -- and various other problems -- by allowing us to have custom actions remain in opts[] and yet still not be used in ordinary automation. This is a lovely change which will also make performing custom actions easier, as we will be able to use get_action() rather than needing to construct the event using to_event(). SmartStasis in particular will be happy about that benefit.

There are three basic changes:

1) A new boolean custom field in the advevent type, true if the "custom" keyword is present in the special field.
2) Do NOT automatically remove "custom" actions when loading the data file. Danger! Danger! Opts now contains all custom actions!
3) In all of our <type>_action sorts, skip advevents where a.custom == true. So all the actions chosen by BatBrain will ignore custom actions.

I believe 3 is the important one for you, as I seem to recall you use your own sorting functions rather than BatBrain's. Simply add code to them to skip custom actions and I believe this update should be problem-free for you. You will still be able to programmatically handle custom actions such as the limited-use chefstaves, however, since they still exist in opts, despite not being used in regular automation. WIN!

Since we probably need to make these changes at the same time, I've pushed an update which does 1) and 3) only, giving you time to edit WHAM to handle the presence of custom actions in opts[] before they actually appear there. When WHAM is custom-action-safe, then I'll release 2), allowing custom actions to be FREE!
