Winterbay's Helpful Automatic Monsterbasher (WHAM)

OK, here we go. It did this on its own after attempting to automate some adventures (how's that for alliteration) on the island battlefield.

If I set verbosity to 9 or lower it simply tries to use the feather over and over ad infinitum.

I did not have any frozen feathers in my inventory when I started automation, I've done a full refresh at least once this session, and I haven't adventured in a location that could've given me more frozen feathers.

The problem may actually be the -1 used by you in the blacklist (due to my incorrect understanding and text in the relay-script). It screws up the check that BatBrain does to see if an item is usable or not. Did the problem occur before you added it to the blacklist?

Try changing the -1 to a 0 and see if that helps.
 
More information. I opened "WHAM_damageandcosts.txt" in Kolmafia\data and it contains this:

2645 is the item id of the frozen feather. Is this generated by the script as part of its calculations (it's there because it chose frozen feather) or is it choosing frozen feather because of this?

EDIT: you ninja'd a reply in there while I was writing this one. I'll change the blacklist values and report back.
 
So, after changing the values in the blacklist it hasn't attempted to use a frozen feather... hooray!

Perhaps a revamp of the WHAM relay browser interface is in order (or at the very least a more clear explanation of how to use what's there).

The only "normal" way to beat Mammon is to use six dangerous jerkcicles, or which I had plenty.

I stopped WHAM before it went to far. Again the realistic strategy is to use ten dangerous jerkcicles and wait for him to kill himself on him.

WHAM has no special handling for those bosses, and neither does, as far as I know, batbrain. I've never ben to the suburbs so hae not had any inclination to look into that.
What are the recommended strategies for which monsters?

Since WHAM is handling the sea bosses I think we should probably add other special bosses as well.
 
The wiki articles on the bosses are accurate. The short version is that you use the special items from each sub-zone to defeat the bosses for that zone.

If you don't have any Devlish Folios I would be happy to contribute some to the cause. :)

Questions: I note that many of the bosses actually seem to discourage use of funkslinging. Is this true for all of them? (or could you for example funksling 10 jars full of wind in 5 rounds to win rather than 10 rounds).

The Thorax has a special attack that takes a round to wind up, does he thus use this attack every other turn or would you need to detect it first?

Also, most of these monsters will need to be added to BatBrain before WHAM can handle them properly (like their resitances and so on).

Yes. That's exactly what I did and funkslinging works just fine. One thing to keep in mind is that you must have enough of the item for the zone in inventory or you will likely lose the combat.

That's the one boss that WHAM beat without problem on this run.
 
For Thug 1 and Thug 2, you can funksling jars of wind.

For The Terrible Pinch, you don't actually need any jars, you could just do a lot of stunning to keep the boss from ever attacking. Jars are used there to negate any special abilities. I always used a potato for that fight.

For The Bat in The Spats, you can funksling clumsiness bark.

For The Thorax, he winds up every time he isn't stunned. Potatoes are bad for this fight.

For The Large-Bellied Snitch, funksling jerkcicles (8 is usually sufficient based on the rate that he uses special moves, but 10 might be better sometimes) and let him attack you.

For Mammon the Elephant, funksling jerkcicles and don't even consider anything else.

One thing to keep in mind is that you must have enough of the item for the zone in inventory or you will likely lose the combat.
I thought KoL wouldn't even let you find the bosses without a decent number of the combat item in your inventory.

BatBrain has had an autoresponse built in for The Thorax for a good while now, but I haven't gotten to that content yet myself and so haven't written in any other special handling. I suspect the majority of WHAM's problems with those monsters are due to BatBrain's lack of knowledge rather than anything WHAM is doing wrong.
 
Using the special skills gained from the thing with no name you can, according to the wiki, increase the drop rate of the special items in each zone. Does anyone know if this is cumulative (more casts gives even more +drop) or just a one-time special effect (so only one cast needed)?
 
My experience is that if you use the skill, you get one extra special item at the end of the combat, above and beyond what you get from normal item drop. That is anecdotal, obviously. :)

Seconded. +1 drop. Monsters can even drop 3 items instead of 2. Like the effect from equipping certain items at the Orc Chasm.
 
Ok, revision 10 of WHAM beta tries to handle all the bosses as well as use the special skill to gain that extra item. I'm doing a solu-run of hobopolis (trying to regain my iceball that WHAM somehow managed to sling despite it being marked as custom) so it'll be a while before I can test it myself.
