From reading the revamp thread and kolwiki, using a topiary nugglet (what you get when you listen to Frank and keep to the left) leads to a ... nuggletmaster? ... (buy items for nugglets). There's the bowl, a 3-item outfit, and a stench/heal familiar.
A Coinmaster, eh? I look forward to checking it out!

Although, going right lets you find a topiary duck, or something, complete with factoids, right? Conflicting goals!

I expect that the autosell price for the familiar item will change from 70 to 75, to match every other familiar item, by and by. They seem to do this a lot for new familiar items: initially price it at 70 and then reprice it to 75.

Seriously! On one hand I want to complete it in minimal turns, on the other hand... factoids!

I bought the Manuel the day it was released, but ignored factoid gathering as a silly thing. Somehow that attitude slowly changed. I faxed in old monsters in aftercore. I bought antique maps. Eventually I started killing off Hobo Bosses for the factoids. (Killing off the Dread Bosses was a natural part of my acquiring the loot from Dreadsylvania.) One of the last things I did was to do three more Zombie Slayer ascensions just to kill the hunters that appear at levels 14 and 15 since the first time I was doing Zombie Slayer I still thought that factoid hunting was silly and always killed the NS at level 13.

Then during Crimbo I killed off the Hobo Bosses for the third time (making a nice profit selling Hobopolis Loot), and killed EVE for the second and third time which required quite a bit of extended aftercore.

I just got every single factoid in the game for the very first time on December 31st!! Then when rollover arrived, the NS'15 Tower revamp made it a sad joke and a dream. Sigh... It'll probably take another 50 ascensions to get all the random once per ascension bosses. It was nice to have them all, even if that did not last an entire day.

The duck is really odd, because you have to take the faster path and fail at it to get the duck. Two runs and I still haven't done it right.

Bale, at least you hit complete for a little while. You could have missed by less than a day the other direction.

I'm mostly ignoring the new factoids for now. I'll do my 12 outfit ascensions, then evaluate what will work best to get what I'm still missing. Except that darn duck. I'll try again to see him next run if it doesn't blow day count.

To get the duck, I have to go right at a choice and have too few HP to pass the trap? Is that what you are saying? It doesn't fit with this.

What about the topiary chihuahua herd?

Oh, I see what I was doing wrong. To get the fights, go left at 'Allo. If you take the test and pass, you'll skip the gopher. Fight your gopher, then at Pooling Your Resources, go left again so you won't skip the duck. After you fight your duck you move to Of Mouseholes and Manholes. There you may as well ignore Frank and do the test, because there's nothing to fight in the adventure you skip.

I'm not sure what happens if you take the test and fail, but I see no reason to do intentionally, since going left gives you a nugglet.

BTW, I got this by looking at a bunch of wiki pages. I'm totally prepared to be told I'm wrong again.

EDIT: Ugh. I see a problem. There's no topiary chihuahua herd on the wiki. Since the KoL spading links says that fighting the duck advances you two, it's possible the gopher does as well, which might skip your chance to fight the chihuahua herd.

Since the duck is a 44% duck, it should be the 4th of 9 challenges. If the gopher is challenge 2 and skips you to 4, and the duck is challenge 4 and skips you to 6, I'd expect there to be challenge 7, 8, and 9 following that.

I don't see that many challenges on the Wiki. Presumably you'd see them all by going exclusively left - and you'd collect 8 nugglets for doing so.

There you may as well ignore Frank and do the test, because there's nothing to fight in the adventure you skip.
Except that if you don't skip the adventure, you get a nugglet. Yes, eventually you'll want to minimize turns through the maze, but there are a fair number of nugglets to collect first, perhaps.

Edit: No, the Wiki is missing earlier challenges. Look at choice adventure numbers:

place.php?whichplace=nstower&action=ns_03_hedgemaze

5 = ?
6 = ?
7 = Of Mouseholes and Manholes (1011)
8 = ?
9 = Mazel Tov! (1013)

The Wiki says:

Good Ol' 44% Duck (1009) (duck)
The Last Temptation (1012)

So I would guess that the chihuahuas are in choice (1010).
Pooling Your Resources (1008) skips to (1011)
Good Ol' 44% Duck (1009) skips to (1011).

The names and adventure numbers are from my own logs. I was in a hurry at the time and just hit left every step. I put chihuahua herd on 1007, because that's where the post on KoL spading had it.

EDIT: Added topiary kiwi well after the fact for completeness.

Oh. So if I fight the gopher, it skips the chihuahua herd. That means I can only fight two of the three monsters each ascension. My duck factoids are obviously going to get completed before the other two.

Thank you.

Noticed a small problem. Fighting adventurers in the crowd is not maintaining my buffs:

Crowd 1: place.php?whichplace=nstower&action=ns_01_crowd1
Crowd 2: place.php?whichplace=nstower&action=ns_01_crowd2
Crowd 3: place.php?whichplace=nstower&action=ns_01_crowd3

The following choice adventures only have a single option, so please set their default value as 1:
choiceAdventure: 1020, 1021, 1022

Those three choice adventures are the introduction of Frank.

The topiary nugglet is marked "usable", but it is not, really. In the Inventory, it has a "sculpt" link which takes you to shop.php?whichshop=topiary. That's an improvement over previous items which you would "use" (via inv_use.php) which would redirect to shop.php

Here is the HTML of that page.

Code:

Oh. So if I fight the gopher, it skips the chihuahua herd. That means I can only fight two of the three monsters each ascension. My duck factoids are obviously going to get completed before the other two.

Thank you.

There's another monster at the sixth choice: a topiary kiwi.

Thank you. Two pairs of monsters where I can fight half of them each ascension actually makes me happier. I like symmetry. :)

I thought "Crap! Another hard to get monster." Then I realized it's little extra effort and no extra ascensions and I like symmetry too. I edited my previous post to add the kiwi to the list.

Okay. We seem to be on the right track. I went for chihuahua herd and kiwi and fought them both. It seems to me the first option advances you one step and the second two if you win (test or combat). I lost to the kiwi (d'oh!) and got to fight it again.

It seems to me the first option advances you one step and the second two if you win (test or combat).
Room 1 (Allo' (1005)) leads to room 4 (Pooling Your Resources (1008)) if you win.
Room 4 (Pooling Your Resources (1008)) test leads to room 7 (Of Mouseholes and Manholes (1011)) if you win.
Room 7 (Of Mouseholes and Manholes (1011)) leads to room 9 (Mazel Tov! (1013)) if you win.

The first 2 tests advance you 3, right to the next test. The 3rd test leads you to the exit.
That is the "3 turn" way through the maze - and a telescope with 5 upgrades shows you all three tests.

I can confirm that the chihuahuas and duck advance you 2 if you win.
If the gopher and kiwi do the same, here is the whole thing:

1 = Allo' (1005) right (test 1) -> 1008
2 = One Small Step For Adventurer (1006) right (gopher) -> 1008
3 = Twisty Little Passages, All Hedge (1007) right (chihuahua herd) -> 1009
4 = Pooling Your Resources (1008) right (test 2) -> 1011
5 = Good Ol' 44% (1009) right (duck) -> 1013
6 = Another Day, Another Fork (1010) right (kiwi) -> 1012
7 = Of Mouseholes and Manholes (1011) right (test 3) -> 1013
8 = The Last Temptation (1012) left or right (pointless damage) -> 1013
9 = Mazel Tov! (1013)

I'll put in choice adventure spoilers based on that.

I lost to the kiwi (d'oh!) and got to fight it again.
If you get Beat Up by a combat or a test, does it start you again in the same room, or do you get to start all over?
If the latter, seems like you could win combats more than once in the same run.

Revision 15164 adds choice spoilers for the 8 rooms of the Hedge Maze where you have a choice of going left or right. This necessitated adding The Hedge Maze as an adventuring location under the Sorceress zone - which is, ultimately, correct, although we don't have it set up for you to be able to automate that location yet.

You can configure the 8 choice options right now by selecting the Hedge Maze as your adventuring location and using the GUI.

By and by, you will be able to select that location and tell it to Adventure and KoLmafia will go there and steer through the choice chain per your specification. That's a little tricky for counters since how many turns it takes depends on how you have it configured. Perhaps we should just assume it will take 9 turns.

That may be all the "quest scripting" we need to build in for the Hedge Maze.
