Not sure if it's been stealth fixed in the more recent updates (currently running 9905), but I'd got a Necbromancer's Staff, and decided to add some cans to it while still utilizing good booze (better than Swiller, etc.). I went to buy some Blood Lights from the mall (planned on 19 in total) and I had a helluva time trying to. It looked to my uneducated self that someone was buying them as I was (I got "red-screened" as I bought them, saying the desired amount wasn't purchased, wanted 19, got 0).
When I looked at Mafia's Session Results screen afterwards, it was telling me I had X Blood Light and X "cans of Blood Light". I blew through 2 million meat buying over 200 cans (in total, over 2 days) because I thought I wasn't getting the right amount of cans.
I also had to drink them through the Relay Browser, since Mafia didn't recognize "cans of Blood Light" as an item, and therefore it didn't show up in the Booze part of the Item Manager.

I wasn't exactly trying to corner the market on the damned things. So yes, anyone who's wanted to buy cheaper Blood Light can blame me for screwing it up.
