Originally discussed here. While the setting showContainerDropdown can be changed to display or not display the container dropdown, this change is not dynamic if the gear changer is in a tab, instead of a window.
Using r10319, starting with the container dropdown not being displayed. This is what happens when I set showContainerDropdown=true

After I logout and back in again it shows the container dropdown properly. Then when I set showContainerDropdown=false I get this:

Once again, loging out and back in will fix the display, this time without the container.
And that is what I mean by "not dynamically". I hope that the images give you a clue why the tab isn't being redrawn correctly.
