Does the string you're testing against affect this error message? I have a regex that is built exactly the same with -every- incoming chat message, and once every LONG while I get the message "Invalid pattern syntax" even though nothing is different about the pattern itself.
pattern:
(?:I AM|I'M) (?:AN |A )?(WHO I AM|ME|ANDROGYNOUS|PLURAL|BOY|MAN|MALE|GIRL|WOMAN|FEMALE|IT|INANIMATE)
Edit: more info that may or may not be useful...
It seems to only occur when I (the account running the chatbotScript) attempt to speak. Not every time, but it's not ever crashing on other inbound messages.
Why this would have affect on the regex is beyond me though.
