Bug - Not A Bug Faxbot support broken when using proxy

When at home I can use the Faxbot support fine. When at work the Faxbot window loads up but is not populated with monsters. I suspect this is due to being behind a proxy at work (all other settings are kept exactly the same as I run mafia from a usb).

It might be that your work blocks access to the site where the faxbot xml-file is stored. I'm not sure which server that is but you could try to go there without Mafia, while at work, and see what result you get?

I've never used a proxy, so I don't know first hand how it's supposed to work, but if you log in with proxy settings, KoLmafia sets some System properties: http.proxyHost, http.proxyPort, http.proxyUser, and http.proxyPassword. Near as I can tell, ALL http connections that KoLmafia will make will be affected by those settings from then on. That would include fetching the faxbot config file. I don't think there's any way we can use a proxy for kingdomofloathing.com URLs and NOT use it for other URLs.

In other words, this smells like your system is blocking the Faxbot host, just as Winterbay suggests, making this a great big Not A Bug.

At work as long as Mafia is set to use the proxy that the browser is using everything works perfectly and since I can't even reach the internet without the proxy I'm going to assume that Mafia uses said proxy also for visiturl and other similar commands.

Not a bug. At work the page is blocked. Not sure if this is worth doing but could this become a feature request to cache faxbot's list of monsters? Or maybe add a setting for how often to check the list? Every X days or something? Its a fairly static list, isn't it? But feel free to close this.
