Yet, KoLmafia has alerts! It sometimes alerts me for things like PM messages received. Perhaps there should be a preference to turn off alerts?

There is not taskbar icon if you're using windows (that I'm aware of at least), so alerts is really the only way to get information passed on in that case...
Also, a preference would be a good idea, probably set to "do not use alerts" as default.

I think it should actually be active by default. That way new users know about it and don't miss out.
