Relay Browser issues

I can only use the standard (KoL-given, non-Mafia) attack/item/skill use/run buttons once per fight (by which I mean I can use only one of them one time and can't use any of them afterwards).
I've re-downloaded 14.5, went back to 14.4, messed with settings in both, all of which have fixed nothing.
Accomplished by opening Mafia, opening relay browser, fighting, and attempting to use KoL Standard Item/skill/attack buttons.
Currently back using 14.5, running Windows XP.

Also, which browser are you using? If you're using Firefox, especially with Greasemonkey scripts, try turning them all off and try another combat. Or just try a different browser, like Internet Explorer. Very often weird behaviour such as this is actually caused by a rogue (and usually quite out of date) GM script.

Daily build didn't work and I don't use GM or scripts of any kind. I also deleted IE. However, I installed Chrome and the problem seems to be fixed. Ideas on what was wrong?

EDIT: Apologies, Veracity, I was replying from memory and forgot you'd posted. It works fine when logged into KoL directly (I use, Firefox as regular browser). It seems there's a Mafia-FF issue, at least on my machine.

I also deleted IE.

On XP? Impossible without major registry hacking and a shell replacement, since Windows Explorer is basically just a type of instance of Internet Explorer.

Anyways though, good to know that it's your FF. Most likely, you've changed some configuration setting somewhere, maybe in about:config. Or you might have an extension that did it. Or if you don't use extensions, maybe some malware did it.

I used a registry cleaner if that would do it. Fixed a few problems I had. I do run extensions, but the latest two I got (around the time I started having trouble) I've already disabled and retested. Any idea on how to normalise everything?
EDIT: Damn. I did it again. Yeah, I'm aware I can't *fully* purge it, but I made it completely inaccessible. Mafia (and other applications) kept trying to load IE as opposed to Firefox like I'd had it set to. So..gone, no. But for all intents and purposes, disabled.

Purge what, FF or mafia? For mafia, to FULLY purge it on XP, move out the settings and data folders. That should force it to redo all the settings. Though you'll still want them back after you figure out what's wrong. For FF... what exactly are you trying to do? What level of purge do you want? If you want it COMPLETELY fresh, we can do that... but most people mean some lesser level of cleansing.

I'm going to move this out of Bug Reports to Community Support. Considering how many hundreds of people successfully use the Relay Browser with Firefox, this is almost certainly nothing wrong with KoLmafia, but is some peculiarity with your specific setup.

For mafia's case, you open Preferences, go to Browser, and set the location of the browser you'd like it to use... you don't tear your operating system to pieces and hope that it will still run when done. If you've done weird registry hacks and the like in an attempt to disable IE, your best bet is to reinstall Windows and not break it next time...

Good advice except that's what I did. This is a separate problem stemming from the fact that the person who put this computer together did it in the shoddiest manner possible. Thank you for assuming I'm so incompetent that I can't figure out how to set FF to be my default browser. I consulted with multiple other tech people through that whole issue. If 3 different people with 40+ years of experience couldn't figure it out, I doubt coming here would've helped much. I spent over 15 hours on that. I'd like to finally move on. I assure you, I did nothing that would break the computer more than it already was when it was thrown together. IE is *still* recoverable, as I intended, so please, let's stick to the issue at hand: Firefox-Mafia relay browser problems and possible causes *not* related to IE.
Apologies for being short, but with this piece of crap, the only real hope is to do what you can to make it function even moderately well. I've spent more than a couple weeks doing so total and I've been instructed enough to know basic operations like browser setting, and if a problem arose, I wouldn't go in like an idiot and mess with things without extensive consultation.

I don't think incompetency was assumed, it's just the usual way of doing things when trying to help someone you don't know at all.

Well, if it helps, the way KoLmafia checks to see if it should be using Internet Explorer is by typing assoc .html into the equivalent of your command prompt to find out what the file association is, since most programs that change the default browser will also change that value.

If that returns "htmlfile" somewhere in the string, then that means the web browser is using an IE-like string to specify itself so KoLmafia (and any program using similar logic to check to see if it should rely on "start" or try to invoke the browser manually) assumes you want IE and defaults to IE.

However, if that's not actually true, you can fix it by typing in "assoc .html=somethingelse" (use someone else's computer to figure out what the something else is for the default browser you want to use).

Edit:

To also stay on track, I've switched to Pale Moon for whenever I need to do Firefox testing, so I have no idea what would cause a normal Firefox to behave oddly without installing a portable edition of Firefox (which probably doesn't behave exactly like a real installation of Firefox and might not have the problem).

If you're the experimental type, you can try installing Pale Moon on your system instead to see if you still have the same problem, or if you're less experimental, see if a portable edition of Firefox has the problem you're experiencing.

Perhaps I'm reading too deep into it. There's a reason I don't go to tech forums.
Pale Moon worked, just like Chrome did, but without the awful look. Is it stable enough to use as a full time browser? Worth switching to?

It's been stable and pretty snappy in my use of it. However, my feedback is probably not useful, since the only extension I have installed is Stylish which definitely doesn't make use of any of the Firefox features that Pale Moon disabled in building the optimized binary.

This just occurred to me after re-reading the original post: is JavaScript disabled in your firefox settings? Seems like a decent culprit considering the failure lies with the buttons.
