MP restore errors appearing in the last week

In the last week I've started getting errors when restoring mana that don't make sense. I get the following:

Cannot spend meat to fully restore MP! Failed to use magical mystery juice for some reason.
Did not fully restore MP for some reason.

Even when mana has been fully restored.

I haven't changed restore settings in quite a while. I do use Universal Recovery but that has worked well for years.
Any suggestions on where to look for the cause? Over the course of 400+ turns it will happen once or twice.

I have seen this for quite some time. It usually (always?) happens when automating and I have not bothered to try and track it down since a restart usually resolves it. I have unfounded suspicions about restoration that is a side effect of maintaining a mood but I have not acted on that. Maybe I should pay closer attention next time.
