I need some help troubleshooting my installation

I've been repeatedly getting an "invalid or corrupt jarfile" when I try to run KoLMafia on my Windows 10 PC. I'm supposed to take the .zip from github and change the extension to .jar, right?

I tried with the latest Java directly from Oracle (Java 8 . I uninstalled that and installed the latest JDK (21) from Adoptium. I tried uninstalling 21 and installing version 17 from Adoptium but I'm still getting the same error. I tried restarting my PC and nothing is different, I get the same error message every time.

No, you're supposed to take the .jar from https://github.com/kolmafia/kolmafia/releases.

Thanks for the link. I downloaded the .jar from that page (KoLmafia-28579.jar) and tried to run it but nothing is happening. I made sure that I'm using the Open JDK Platform binary but nothing seems to happen when I run it. Not even an error message.

If you want to be part of an experiment, download the multitool jar file from https://github.com/kolmafia/multitool/releases/tag/r67, put in the directory you have the KoLmafia jar file and run multitool (just like you are running KoLmafia). That should give us more information than we have now.

Hopefully you then reinstalled Java 21, since we require that at a minimum.

fronobulax's suggestion to use multitool may also help.
