While the commit logs can be useful, it is not safe to count on them to be complete and accurate.

Yeah... I try to actually open mafia and check for <item> and then, if it's a concoction, recipe <item> to see if it's been added before bug reporting or rebumping. Saved me a few times, though I've still missed some. Generally when I try to check the source or SVN and it ends up not where I'd expect it.
