I already have liver of steel for this first run with a new character (I've played with other characters before). Right now I am 19 drunk, and tried using the adventure function in Mafia (not browser). It says I am too drunk to continue, requiring manual control in browser. I tried refreshing character pane but it says I'm 19/14 drunk. I'm currently running KoLMafia ver 17.3 on a Macbook pro. What's happening??

Since you are manually adventuring in the relay browser I cannot doubt you have used the liver, so...
In the CLI type refresh all and it should check your skills to discover that you have liver of steel. I don't know how it messed up on that, but it will fix the problem.
If there's still a problem, type skills in the CLI and to see if KoLmafia disagrees about you knowing the skill.
