How about counters for thunder and rain replenishment? Every 10 wins gives you thunder, every 7 wins gives you rain.

It's a small thing, but the default for choiceAdventure976 should be 1.

That is the only choice for "Ed the Undrowning" so it should be in defaults.

Perhaps we should have "heavyRainPoints" to keep track of skills count you start with in this path, sort of like we have borisPoints, jarlsbergPoints, sneakyPetePoints, and zombiePoints.

While this is a good idea, spading is evolving that it shows is not the most useful information.

In your next ascension you will have all previous skill glands earned, plus a new skill item. The new skill item is based on the skill monster that you killed the most of in your previous ascension. Originally people believed it was the type of skill you had the most of which determined it, but that failed testing.

For instance.
  • Ascension 1: No skill glands at start, but killed more aquacondas than the others.
  • Ascension 2: Start with 1 aquaconda brain. Once again you kill more aquacondas.
  • Ascension 3: Start with 2 aquaconda brain. This time you kill more storm cows. (6 Rain skills and 5 Lightning Skills means more storm cows killed.)
  • Ascension 4: Start with 2 aquaconda brain and 1 lightning milk.

There are three different types of Heavy Rain points so keeping track of them separately is more useful than just tracking number of heavyRainPoints. Here's the html when you get those items:

HTML:
<body><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif' id='dragged'><div id='debug'></div><div class=contextmenu id='skillmenu'></div><div class=contextmenu id='itemsmenu'></div><div id=topbar><center><table class=actionbar cellpadding=0 cellspacing=1><tbody><tr class=label><td> </td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr><tr class=blueback><td><a href='main.php'><img src='/images/itemimages/plexpock.gif'></td><td class=spacer></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif' id='skills'></td><td class=spacer></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td><td class=spacer></td><td class=spacer></td><td><img src='/images/itemimages/blank.gif'></td></tr><tr class=label><td>again</td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr></tbody></table></center></div><div class='content' id='content_'><div id='effdiv' style='display: none;'></div><div style='overflow: auto;'>

OMG! That html just farted! Twice!

More importantly, KoLmafia did not add a [use] link after the two aquaconda brains.

On another topic, I challenge the "spading" that the first Rain Monster appears on turns 9-11. In 4 ascensions I have encountered the first monster on turns: 11, 11, 15, 15.

I think a lot more spading is required than my 4 data points, but we're going to need to open up the range.

Were your turns 1 or 11-14 in non adventure.php zones?

OH! Heck. Runs 3 and 4 were softcore so turn 1 was using Rain Man on a Writing Desk and turns 2-4 was copying it. Apparently that delays setting the counter until I hit my first adventure.php zone.

That is interesting! Thank you for pointing that out.

It does raise an interesting question, which might be worth consideration. Should we not close a wandering/romantic counter when you are in non adventure.php zones, and not start wandering monster counters at the start of an ascension but at the first adventure.php hit of the ascension, and the romantic counter at the first adventure.php hit after skill use. If you are in a SR window, and a fortune cookie / Lucky Lindy shows all number that isn't within a possible range thereafter, should we set it to 0 ?

Basically a load of edge cases which generate occasional confusions.

So, basically, we should track that you've earned X lightning milk, Y, aquaconda brains, and Z thunder thighs? And if you start a new run, you will get all of the above and one more of (something)?

(What happens if you have all the items of a particular type that you can use? I.e., you start out with an entire skill tree. Will the "extra" item be from a different skill tree, or can you perhaps get a redundant and useless extra item of the same sort?)

When does this happen? That looks like the "welcome to the kingdom" message you get immediately after you ascend in to this path. What is the URL?

A-yup. We do not understand "You acquire 2 aquaconda brains" as something we should decorate with a use link. Old news; you see the same thing when you open a smut orc pervert box, for example; we give you a "bridge" link for any item that you only got one of, but nothing for ones you got more than one if. That would be a Feature or Bug for use links in general.

Playing devils advocate, what do we want to know here? I guess it's trying to guess which things you will have available in your next Heavy Rains? Clearly the number of skills you have now is determined by inventory plus known skills. If that's the case, we'd also want to know which extra skill we expect next time, otherwise it's not very much use.

That is correct.

I have no idea and nobody else has provided information. I really hope the extra item will be from a different skill tree.

When you ascend you get this. According to my session log...

Code:
Encounter: Why Is the World In Love Again?
Took choice 966/1: unknown
choice.php?pwd&whichchoice=966&option=1
You acquire an item: lightning milk
You acquire aquaconda brain (2)
You acquire an item: DNA extraction syringe

I was only expecting a log of which skill items were already given to the player so the the player can know that he'll have that plus one more. The player cannot even easily predict what new item he'll add to that quote without the list of what he got at the beginning of this ascension so it is definitely of use, even if mafia doesn't do the prediction for him. At the moment it is easy for me to remember this list, but in a few ascensions I'll probably have trouble keeping track. I am also working to manipulate my skill items to make future ascensions easier.

Though as Veracity points out we don't know what happens when you already get 7 items of a type, so even if you try to predict it we cannot yet know what will happen in that eventually common instance.

For whatever reason, it appears that non-bookshelf skills that are type69 aren't being removed when you ascend, until you restart mafia. Bookshelf skills are being properly removed.

From this it looks like limit may be three of each item.

I'm not sure why it "Retrieved character data" twice.

But, having done so, my skills were available again to me. Mostly.

> cast curio

You don't have a skill uniquely matching "curio"
Really? I used to.

I went to look at my charsheet - and it's not listed.
I went to the "skills" menu in the topmenu.

Oh, there is is in the Buffs dropdown: "Curiosity of Br'er Terrapin (10 MP)"

I try to cast it:

You don't have that skill.

I reported a KoL bug.

Important information on skill progression. It maxes out at 3 of each organ.

starting run #11:

You acquire 3 lightning milks
You acquire 3 aquaconda brains
You acquire 3 thunder thighs

That makes it much less interesting to track this. Anyone who has completed 9 ascension should be maxed out.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get stuck without lightning milk because you haven't been killing enough lightning cows? I'm assuming if your brains and thighs are at 3 each you will get a milk for completing your 7th ascension, but it would be nice to know for sure.

I imagine someone will beat me to it, but if not, when I have three in two things I'm happy to avoid meeting the third thing at all to test this.

I provided some bad information in this thread. The new skill item you get at the beginning of the next ascension is based on the number of skills you possess, not the number of monsters that you killed. I made a mistake about my data. Sorry.
