Also, is it really worth stasising in the basement (which is what it was doing there)?
Drat. Sorry I missed that. Yes, it trying to stasis. I thought it was trying to optimally kill. That's really strange, because my familiar was a sandworm. What's there to stasis for?

I did a verbosity 9, it looks like it's just farming candy.

Thirty meat per round of Candyblast (3022) isn't a bad profit if I'd been in ronin, which I wasn't. I applied my Candyblast hack to batfactors.txt and a proper kill was made.

So, that's party an existing bug (over estimating the profit from Candyblast), but WHAM/SmartStasis shouldn't stasis me to death, which is the problem I'm looking to squash.

If I think I'm making progress, I'll hold off ascending until Sunday. However, there's nice weather to complete with playing online. Deeper into the basement I go. . .

Theoretically this while-condition should stop it from continue till your dead, but I guess the last part is what is the problem possibly.

If you changed that, it would always stasis forever instead of stopping when the round is getting late...

Interesting fact: WHAM already skips Stasising altogether if we are in the basement. The problem is that Mafia seems to fail to update my_location() to "Fernswarthy's Basement" when you are in the basement. It stays at none (or possibly what it was before, not sure since all the times I've tested I had only been in the basement). I should probably file a bug report for that if I can verify it.

Well, I've dived pretty deep into the basement (361 floors @ level 20) and WHAM did very very well. It timed out (round > 25) on a few fights when another clobber would have won, but that's just fine. I noticed a bit late that autoBasement was buffing to fight monsters, so that made the job a little easier. When I disabled that code, WHAM did just fine, wow. I'm going to call my previous WHAM problems basement problems fixed. I certainly couldn't recreate them.

Getting hit close to 50% of the time for such huge numbers might be the issue.

For example, I'm doing an HCO PM run and I didn't notice my mood dropped me too low on MP before my next adventure (I had told it not to automatically restore from when I was playing turns early on). WHAM used entangling noodles, then aborted because it couldn't kill the monster. I funkslung 2 MMJs and used Weapon of the Pastalord (what WHAM had been using) and went on my way.

But, that's up for debate I guess if someone would want WHAM to use up their restores (especially if they were low on meat and/or couldn't buy cost effective ones).

Two cents to add to this discussion:

$0.01: BatBrain's monster damage estimates, which exactly follow the formula described on the Wiki, may be too low. It has been previously mentioned in the BatBrain thread and I've noted a discrepancy as well between estimated and real damage. Further spading may be in order -- the formula may have changed since the Wiki formula was posted. If it's true that BatBrain underestimates monster damage, that could be a factor contributing towards high-level (or should I say low-level?) basement deaths, where the monsters can deal a huge amount of damage.

$0.01: my_location() also returns $location[none] in the Hidden City, and while climbing the Tower. A feature request to set my_location in these cases might be nice, especially since presently tower items are not blacklisted for $location[none], since that's the tower! But items reserved for the tower may be squandered in the Hidden City or Basement simply because the script doesn't know where you are when you're there.

Yep, not particularly valuable points, but possibly helpful.

It has been on my todo list for a while, but I've never managed to figure out a way to do it code-wise, especially if we start balancing it together with deleveling. Doing a few pass-overs if it fails and you have some restorers might be a good way to go, but would definitely slow the execution down.

Getting hit close to 50% of the time for such huge numbers might be the issue.

I think it is interesting that WHAM uses Spectral Snapper, especially since it was commented on the radio recently, by minmaxing users, that it's a useless spell :)

I think that's the thing I love most about WHAM. It finds that niche use that every spell has. When you mentioned radio, I realized that WHAM's going to be a little off until the spell changes are spaded and added to Bat Brain, etc.

Who knows, I'm using the default theme :)

That said: I know that people have reported problems with WHAM and Fernswarthy's Basement. Can anyone remember what specifically was the problem. I'm currently making a large overhaul of autoBasement and as such am adventuring in the basement a bit at the moment.

Wish I had kept notes.

I know that autobasement and WHAM did not play nicely when using elemental forms (or whatever they are called). AB would adopt the form to pass a resistance test and then WHAM would fail to find a way to kill the next monster. Solution is probably an AB option to uneffect elemental forms before combat.

I don't remember other specifics but below is a portion of the CCS I used because it was more reliable than WHAM in terms of successful combat and automation. Of course, I had some inventory management to do, but in my last run, I stocked up and switched from WHAM to CCS when WHAM failed to pick a winning strategy.

On level 61 of the basement WHAM resorted to 45 rounds of Candyblast before deciding to kill a Fernswarthy's Ghost. Is WHAM_killit not working as it should?
