Targeted Ad

Not really KoL related but...

So the ads at the top of the page have been showing me cars and IT type stuff which has been fine. I just got a targeted ad for my local Congressional District election. I blew away cache and cookies and it is still there, so it must like my IP address. Not a problem, but I am impressed, in a negative way.

Yeah, google is creepy like that. I recently moved from the US to Taiwan, and now all of the ads show up in Chinese. So now even if I turn off adblock for a site, I can't read the ads anyway, so I'm never going to consider buying anything from them.

It's pretty basic since IP addresses are automatically sent. Lots of sites do it besides google. Use an anonymizer if you don't like it.

Bale hit the nail on the head. Part of the drawback of information being free is that information being freely available. But to say it's creepy? That's like saying "My 7 year old just solved a Calculus problem. I don't even know what Calculus is!"
