Maybe instead of SBIP-like support mafia could just provide a warning, similar to SR counters and clover protection, saying that you have it equipped and this could seriously mess up Mafia? It seems unlikely that you'd want to adventure with it, anyway, other than for silliness. Assuming it affects adventure texts (I've not even acquired one yet).

You deliver a serious wound (to the toon of 119 damage) with yore staff. Ewe hope he doesn't get a staph infection. Actually, come too think of it, yew hope he does. SOCKO! WHAMMO! BOOF! WHAM! WHAM! BAM! SOCKO! POW! WHAM! SPLAT!

It does, though not nearly as much as the sword.
