Bug - Not A Bug Rave Combo Helper fails to learn any combos

Basically what the title says, when I click "Random Rave", it does the three rave skills, but does not actually learn the combo. If I were to click the buttons for the skills in some order instead, it still doesn't learn the combo. Nor when I do them from the skill bar.

I've had this issue come up before (I don't always go Disco Bandit), but I remember that it tended to work for the combos that give immediate results, excluding the stun one. Perhaps actually randomizing the rave that it tries would be a simple quick fix? Also, shouldn't it be able to figure out that it hit the stun combo if there are no results after the third skill?

Yes, I'm using the newest version.

Edit: I won't be able to test any bugfixes, as I plan to ascend after I kill my nemesis, but given how long this bug has existed, I figured it should be thrown out there.

I think there are two combos that mafia doesn't pick up until the round after the third action (stun, and probably bleeding). Doing basically anything (I used a seal tooth) allowed mafia to pick up on what the combo was, and the Disco Combo buttons became active again at that point. If there really is no way to determine which of the two combos it is without waiting a round, then there might not be a better option than forcing the user to take some action for a round.

I'll probably look at it more next time I'm a DB.
 
When the rave combo broke, I always started experimenting immediately with other rave skills to try to get a different combo. So doing basically anything doesn't fix it. Unless me using rave skills somehow broke it.

I seem to remember that following up the failed combo with another rave skill led to continued problems. I'm not sure what made me try it more recently, but doing something unrelated seems to work well.
 
Update (took me a while, I know):

I have tried to do something unrelated (use my spectre sceptre or suckerpunch) and KoLMafia is *not* picking up that the rave combo it tried is Rave Bleeding, no matter how many rounds I burn doing something unrelated.
 
Can you/someone post a debug log of a fight where you're not getting the combo recognized? I'm happy to volunteer to poke further at this, but I'm not going to be a DB for a while still.

I've been a DB for most of the Bugbear non-flame time, and mafia has properly learned combos throughout.

KoLmafia has never failed to learn rave combos for me except for the ones which require you to do another action before they show up (bleeding, for example) when I happen to kill the creature before the bleeding happens. "Random Rave" reliably works for me. So does picking skills manually, either from the stationary buttons (I don't use the CAB) or from the skill dropdown on the fight page. I frequently hit "Random Rave" multiple times in the same battle and learn two or more new combos in a single battle.

The only thing which will help us diagnose this report is a DEBUG log showing all three skills being submitted and the result text (possibly deferred a round) showing the expected result - and your assurance that it did not learn a combo.

Perhaps a little more logging of the learning process would help. Something like:

Round 1: Use skill POP AND LOCK IT
Round 1: [Combo POP]
Round 2: Use skill RUN LIKE THE WIND
Round 2: [Combo POP RUN]
Round 3: Use skill POP AND LOCK IT
Round 3: [Combo POP]
...does it restart like that? or, would it be [Combo RUN POP]?
Round 4: Use skill BREAK IT ON DOWN
Round 4: [Combo POP BREAK]
Round 5: Use skill RUN LIKE THE WIND
Round 5: [Combo POP BREAK RUN = Rave Steal] or
Round 6: Use skill POP AND LOCK IT
Round 6: [Combo POP BREAK RUN = Rave Bleeding]

In any case, the DEBUG log is key. Simply saying "it doesn't learn any combos whether I use random rave or manually enter the skills" is not helpful, since those things work well for every body else.

I'll be starting a Boris run in a few days. Perhaps I will switch to DB at the end of it and do the Nemesis in aftercore, where I will have plenty of turns available and won't mind wiping out and retrying the combo learning settings.
 
Ah, good point. Sorry, a log didn't even occur to me. I am out of turns today, so this is just my memory of what happened a few days ago (based on Mafia's log file). I'll try to remember to do some tests and record exactly what happens tomorrow.

The first time I could do combos, I was able to do 2 random raves and learn two combos:

Any chance not learning Rave Bleeding is due to Morgoth having HP logging off? Tracking monster healing in the relay browser only happened when you had it logging to the session log; when I was working on tracking monster level in combat I found that, though I did submit a patch which was eventually included to make it update the relay browser even without having the logging. This makes me think though that other items might not be working right because of the very sparse logfile...
 
How do you know you happened upon Rave Steal? I see no item acquisition in the middle of battle.

Oops, I must have accidentally not copied the fight. That's just the same log as the one above it -_-. I went back and got the right log, which is now in the post.


Any chance not learning Rave Bleeding is due to Morgoth having HP logging off?

I'm pretty sure that I have HP logging on. Even if it's not, shouldn't Mafia notice the bleeding message?

The combo message at the end is from slyz's nemesis script, but... You can see that when I do actions, they do damage. And combos are learned. Try enabling all logging options except for reversed HP? :)
 
Oh, wait, logging...I parsed that as tracking -_-.

I'll try that today (once I wake up, going to bed at the moment) and report if it changes anything.
 
You could also copy/paste from your existing session logs.

That's what I did.

So...you know how I was going to turn on HP logging, fight some more ravers, and tell you guys how it turned out? It turns out that all the ravers clear out once you defeat the nemesis, like I kinda sorta did a couple of days ago...wasn't thinking about that. So until I've got another DB run under my belt, I apparently can't do much testing. Sorry.

You can learn combos against any monster you want, not just the ravers, as long as all 3 moves are known...

I will experiment in a week or so. As I said, it works reliably for me, but a little more logging when KoLmafia uses (and/or learns) a Disco or Rave combo might be interesting & useful.
