For the record, if a folder drops in the Relay Browser, we give it a "use" link. If you click it and have an empty slot, KoL automatically inserts the folder into said empty slot and redirects you to the page that shows your current inventory of folders.
I had the Gear Changer open to the Customizable tab when I tried that and it did NOT update to show the new folder as equipped. When I hit the "refresh" button - which calls api.php, which includes the folder list - it did.
I won't be able to test this more until I ascend, as I do not intend to tear out any of my current folders while I am still in-run.
