I've noticed this on at least my last two ascensions. I have my Choice Adv for "Defiled Nook" set to "Skip Adventure" but this keeps happening:

The only reason the encounter thing stops is because I am going in to the relay browser and choosing "Skip Adventure" by hand. You can see I attempted to stop automation by pressing ESC in the CLI on one of them (multiple copies of 'declares world peace') but this didn't actually work, it just kept printing the same line over and over. Of note is that when in the relay browser there is no "->" next to the Skip Adventure choice, in the way that Mafia normally decorates your preferred choice.

I am running r12316 right now but it's happened to me in older versions too. As far as I can tell all the other noncombats work fine.

Yes. We have another thread somewhere talking about this New Content - several choice adventures have changed the "walk away" option index because they have inserted a not-always-there option that gives a hot dog unlocking item.

Actually, this is discussed in the New Content: Hot Dog Stand thread, but I think it is reasonable to have a separate thread to track the changes in Choice Adventures, since we can - and need to - fix those, regardless of the bigger and more complicated problem of handling all the hot dogs themselves.

I'm copying the data from the other thread and renaming (and recategorizing) this one.

Choice Adventure in Nook (155) now has a chance (unknown trigger) to have a button 4 that gives an item (debonair deboner, unknown Item ID). More importantly, Leave the Skulls Alone is now button 5.

Duffel Choice Adventure in Extreme Slope (575) now has a chance (unknown trigger) to have a button 2 that gives an item (Jar of frostigkraut, unknown Item ID). Move importantly, Scram is now button 3.
Also, One Nightstand (Wooden) in the Haunted Bedroom (85) now has a chance (again, trigger unknown) to have a 4th choice that gives the Engorged Sausages and You item (item no. 6590) that unlocks the wet dog at the hot dog stand.

There are issues with the not-always-present options:

1) Two of them replace a previously existing option, which affects existing setting choices
2) Choosing a not-present option does not work.

It would be easy to add in the new options (so spoilers are shown) and change the defaults to take the "skip choice" option. The trickiness comes when a person has selected "get the rare drop" and that option is not present. We need to change how we automate those choices such that if the option is not present, we switch to the "skip choice" option. In which case, "get the rare item" would be a good default for each of those three choices; get it if you can, and skip it if you can't. :)

My proposal would be to use the current choice number (which doesn't exist anymore) to mean "get rare item or skip" which will get the rare if it is available, or skip the choice if it is not. I'm not sure that the rare should be chosen if the player is looking for something else.

I think that few people will be upset to discover they suddenly have an expensive item they were not expecting. Add a new option for the new correct "skip adventure" choice since some people will definitely be upset at losing a turn even for a rare item. Most people would regret the chance and the ones who'd rather skip the item should be OCD enough to change their choice adventure to the new option.

Might be talking about obtaining the Mer-kin stashbox, as you have to choose from the right noncombat to get it depending on which monster dropped the lockkey...?

No... he said the options available change. With that one, the correct option changes, but they are always available. It's entirely a different matter would be completely unrelated to the discussion at hand.

My guess would be scholar path, in the school.

Choosing the right option in some of the noncombats will unlock choices in the one accessible via hallpass.

ah. That reminds me, also on the scholar path in the library, the Card Catalog shows fewer choices if you have a good Mer-Kin vocabulary.
 
I was pointed here from the Hot Dog thread. I would like to see the eXtreme Slopes automated, but it makes sense that it is not that easy. Does the choice adventure with the duffel bag differ between the two options? Could selecting '2' be labelled as "Get Jar or Skip Turn"? I can't imagine who would be upset, as was stated, by getting such a rare item once in a blue moon. It would be such a small percentage I think. For them, add an "Always Skip Turn" option?

That's exactly how I imagine the options being set up.

0 - Manual control
1 - get item
2 - get rare item or skip
3 - skip

And the equivalent for the other three choices - the Haunted Bedroom and the Defiled Nook. The only trickiness is the "or skip" part kicking in automatically if the option is not currently available.

Nobody has worked on it yet. Patience.
 
I really do appreciate all the work you all do, as well as the 1,000,006 requests you get a day (tripled for events or special items). These odd cases must be ironed out first. Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing that update!
 
I just FINALLY got the Jar Of Frostigkraut adventure!!! YAY ME!!! Just as a 'warning' currently the text under the choice of "Dig Deeper" says Skip Adventure. This may throw people off. Not sure if or how you would change it, but it might be a good idea.

The "Dig Deeper" option is 2 - which used to be SKip Adventure, which is now 3. We should probably add in all the new options immediately, so that the right spoilers appear. Unfortunately, that will make those options appear on the Choice Adventure tab as something you can set as a default - which will cause the previously reported infinite loop if you automate with that selection and it's not there.

I'll see if I can look into the right solution this weekend. I've found Engorged Sausages twice (and one optimal spreadsheet) but not the rare choice on the extreme slope nor the one in the defiled nook.

Revision 12344 should do it. You can select a rare item as your desired choice adventure option when automating and KoLmafia will switch to a different option - the one to skip the adventure, except for the Bedroom, which has no such option, in which case you can choose moxie or combat - if the item is not available. In the relay browser, the rare item will be correctly spoiled.
